How is it a locked market? others can still come along and make a better
standard. And it's not like motorola is charging and arm and a leg for these
SEPs either. They just want to be compensated for other companies using the
technology they invented. Microsoft (and Apple) weren't even willing to
negotiate about this. The fact that they are even in court shows they don't
respect motorola for their contributions to the standard. If Microsoft or Apple
thinks the SEPs are only worth <$1, then why don't they invest that much
money and make something better?[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Considering their business is based on that very setup,
pretending to be a victim of established firms claiming
royalties and shutting them out of the market would seem a
little brazen.
