Is Webkit the new IE6?
Authored by: DannyB on Tuesday, November 20 2012 @ 11:34 AM EST
I don't know about IE 10, but you CAN NOT run IE 9 on XP SP3. Infer what you will about IE 10.

Amusingly, that link says: If you want to use a modern browser, use a modern operating system.

So should I take that as advice from Microsoft that it is best to run Linux and a modern browser?

No new IE for XP

but can you run IE10 on XP?

No. Anything newer than IE8 requires at least Windows Vista. In fact I found, when upgrading the Windows partition of one oldish computer, that you actually need Vista SP2 to be able upgrade to IE9, and for whatever reason the upgrade from SP1 to SP2 does not work on that computer (after grinding for a couple of hours, goes mostly through with the update but then find a some problem (with just a hex code for explanation) and downgrades back - kudos to MS that it could backtrack so without introducing problems).

Oh well, the Linux partition on that machine can run modern browsers fine. I keep the Windows partition there mainly to drive one printer/scanner combo. That experience also taught me how to set up a NTFS-formatted USB hard drive so that the corresponding UIDs are seen both by Windows and Linux.
