I was not forgetting that you have to _prove_ you are telling the truth' which
is why I chose the phrase 'provable truth'. It can be just as expensive to prove
someone is spreading lies about you, not to mention stressful. Should we as a
society be allowed to make what ever claims we wish about someone knowing that
they could not afford to prove the claims false, or should we be carefull about
being able to prove we are speaking the truth before we make those claims,
knowing we may not be able to afford defending that proof.
I remember a spate of media reports a few years ago, of teenage suicides in the
UK after malicious and slanderous comments by bullies on social network sites,
that the victims felt poweless to defend themselfs against.
No system is perfect because whatever the system the wealthy will always have an
advantage over the poor in legal battles.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
