The prime target of the international standards and FRAND declarations was to
remove patents and interoperability as trade association tools for the
suppression of competition and the introduction of innovative products.

Trade associations have a considerable arsenal of alternative weapons at their
disposal including trade secrets. The articles of successful trade associations
are usually crafted to minimise all such anti-competitive activities in order to
encourage all collaboration and maximise the growth of the market sector.
