Ably assisted by the Patent Office, at least to us non-US types.

Apple is not trying to add Google to this lawsuit. They are trying to add
Jellybean as an allegedly infringing product in this suit that is still only
against Samsung. You don't have to sue Google to sue over jellybean, or any
version of Android.

If anyone includes an allegedly infringing piece of software in heir hardware
device, then that hardware, when sold with that software installed on it, is an
infringing device according to US patent law, and the company that sells the
hardware with that software on it can be sue3d for infringement, independently
of the original maker of the software. The end user that buys the device with
the software installed on it can also be sued directly for patent infringement
without the patent owner having to sue the software maker or the device maker as
well. Or the patent owner can sue all 3, or any combination, either in a single
law suit or in separate law suits. That's the wonderful US patent system in
action.
