Even open and proven code does not eliminate vulnerabilities, it only reduces
the likelihood of having them go undetected.

No electronic system is ever "as secure" as paper ballots by virtue of
it being an electronic system, although I grant you that the difference may be
able to be reduced to a statistical irrelevance at some point in the (distant,
imho) future.

You still wind up needing physical polling places to deal with the ballot
secrecy issue, though, a la Estonia.
