Just to clarify, I wasn't trying to say that Apple making more money in mobile
means they are leading in sales volume. I don't think that is the case. You are
correct...they make more money on fewer phones because they have higher
profits.
As for the AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint 'sales', those are new activations so
they do
represent sales to the end consumer...not stocking the channel with units. It's
one of the few times we get a chance to compare Apple's sales (Apple reports
sales to consumers) vs. Android sales (most Android OEMs report sales to the
channel which is NOT the same).
My main point was that Apple is NOT being outsold by 5:1 in countries like the
US. Maybe 2:1 at best, and probably much closer to 50:50. As a result, if the
numbers on Android growth are correct they probably represent growth in the
low-end segment of the market (i.e. 'free' phones in India, China, etc.). Apple
does not compete in that space, while microsoft and its partners does. Thus my
analysis that microsoft is probably more likely to take marketshare away from
Android rather than apple.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
