Thanks ... - Legal resources : Gale VRL/Fed.Dep.Lib.Prog.
Authored by: Anonymous on Monday, November 05 2012 @ 01:00 AM EST

Another resource to check is your local public library. The one in San Francisco, CA provides access to Gale's VRL (Virtual Reference Library) to its patrons (library card required for access). The libraries in other large, U.S. cities are probably also offering free, online access to the GVRL to their patrons.

There are also a couple of hard copy options. Some cities have a public access law library. And some library systems are part of the U.S. Federal Depository Library Program (e.g. SFPL's "United States Government"   page has details) with a comprehensive collection of federal documents.

Gale VRL - Law section titles :

  • American Law Yearbook
  • The Bill of Rights (2005)
  • Canadian Parliamentary Guide (2005)
  • Checks and Balances: The Three Branches of the American Government (2005)
  • Crime and Punishment in America Reference Library
  • Encyclopedia of Crime and Justice (2002)
  • Encyclopedia of the American Constitution (2000)
  • Gale Encyclopedia of Everyday Law (2006)
  • Gale Encyclopedia of U.S. History (2008)
  • Gale Encyclopedia of World History (2008)
  • Governments of the World: A Global Guide to Citizens' Rights and Responsibilities (2006)
  • Major Acts of Congress (2004)
  • National Survey of State Laws (2008)
  • Supreme Court Drama: Cases That Changed America (2001)
  • West's Encyclopedia of American Law (2004)
  • World Encyclopedia of Police Forces and Correctional Systems (2007)

Good list. I have one of them installed on my tablet (Blacks I think), and I
do se it.

But a lot of times you can see in posts that people aren't aware of the
definitions of terms, and haven't tried to look them up, which is why I made
that comment. I had forgotten about the legal terms page myself, and I've
been commenting here a long time.
