Looks more like the original post was accidentally done with "Plain Old Text"
setting in place rather than the "HTML formatted" it had been written for, and
by the time the original poster had noticed and corrected the mistake, the
original posting already had followups and thus could no longer be
deleted.
In some forums where moderators are doing more than just disabling
bad content, the threads would likely have been rearranged
accordingly.
However, my experience with such "active" moderators is that
they tend to regularly mess with the contents rather than just the
sequence of postings. Since it apparently is hard to stop this path at a sane
point once you have passed some initial thresholds, I prefer it if it is left to
the responsibility of the readers to recognize and judge fine points like
that.
Like with the patent and copyright systems: if you find that things
tend to go overboard, better throw them out before they take the rest with them. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
