Caveat: given the statements made by the author of the Article, I view the
author as very pro-Microsoft and quite possibly an insider. As a result, I
present the Author's opinions as quite possibly reflecting
Microsofts.
Quote:
Win8-RT is an entirely different operating
system from classic Windows. If Microsoft ties its own services to Win8-RT then
competiton authorities are going to have a hard time make any abuse of monopoly
case stick.
Perhaps the US Anti-trust authorities. But I easily
forsee the European Uninion Anti-trust authorities disabusing Microsoft of that
notion.

The article author Jonathan Murray, is ex-Microsoft, and now works
for Warner Music Group. That said, the article is surprisingly insightful, at
least in terms of Microsofts strategy. Murray seems to think that MS new focus
on device and services (ala Apple) has the potential to revitalize the company.
I say not. MS is way too behind the curve for that. The important point is
this: You have to make something that people want to buy. Apple does this, AND
they have loyal customers. Android has lots of users, and, yes, even fanboys.
MS does have a lot of money to throw at this, but I'd be surprised if it works.
Regarding anti-trust issues, I believe MS can dance around them. They've got a
lot of experience {:-)>
BTW, I like Murrays Ali/Foreman metaphor. Ali won,
but who came out ahead in the end? Ali was a great strategist, and could take
blows that would destroy a lesser man. A good metaphor for MS. See:
