We may not have too many neighbors, but we definitely have xenophobia directed
towards the south. One of the drawbacks to being white and male here in the US
is that racist white males expect you to have their mindset all to often, and I
get reminded that we haven't made as much progress as I hoped that we'd have
made, when it comes to seeing people equally.

I remember commenting some while back to someone, that I considered myself
widely travelled, having been to some twenty or so different countries.
Yet a USian, equally travelled, would probably not even have needed a passport!
I've only twice been outside Europe, once to America (New York and Kansas), and
once to Cambodia.
