A quality product starts with a good design.
Start with a bad design and the best manufacturing house in
the world cannot build a good product.
Apple designs its own products, so they are responsible for
the design part of the quality equation.
Apple very likely employs a small army of quality personnel
to supervise their contract manufacturers, so they have some
responsibility for the build quality as well.
That said, I think Apple products are overrated.
On the basis of my anecdotal evidence, the lifespan of a
road warrior's Macbook Pro is two to three years. An IBM
Thinkpad, on the other hand, was a five to seven year
investment.
Don't know about Lenovo Thinkpads. If the lessons IBM
taught them about building hardware stick, they will also be
long-lived machines.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
