Gartner is lousy at reading tea leaves

And I suspect that Apple may not be paying them. You don't pay them, you
don't get mentioned.

Not just Apple
Authored by: ailuromancy on Friday, October 26 2012 @ 11:35 AM EDT

The article is about Android, so I can understand them comparing to Microsoft and not including figures for Red Hat, IBM, Apple, Sunacle and SCO.

If I look around the house, I find one TV, two set top boxes, two routers (one is a backup), a GPS, two Phones, a laptop and a desktop that are all Linux. The TV was a suprise. The camera and MP3 player are (probably) not Linux.

I admit my house is a bit strange, but I bet there are plenty where Linux devices outnumber Microsoft and Apple combined. That does not matter to Gartner, because most small single-function devices do not have a third party software market with a billion dollar revenue. If Gartner - or someone reliable published figures that included small devices, then perhaps we not not get new tax laws that feed the trolls.
