A paper which reaches its conclusion via serious mathematical error and
mistreatment of data is just plain wrong! Such a paper is not redeemed by
subsequent papers attempting to reach the same conclusion via different
methods.

Subsequent hockeysticks also have serious flaws (ahem - upsidedown use of
Tiljander data - ahem). It is worthwhile considering the meta-question of why
such desperate efforts have been mounted to try to rescue the result of this
seriously flawed paper.

In any case we've mostly moved beyond hockeysticks these days and there is now
general acceptance of the existence of the medievil warm period.
