Except I doubt that is what Google are doing.
It's quite possible (and I have no problem with this) that Google are putting
their own ads in the advertisement side bar. What Google are almost 200%
certainly NOT doing is poisoning the actual search results with their own links.
If the search comes up with their links, then fair enough.
What is happening, sadly, is that the alternatives are not popular, not known
about, and are being overwhelmed. I think back to the days before Amazon, when
if I wanted a CD, I would often go to pastelblue.co.uk. It had a wide following.
Then Amazon came along and it faded away - because Amazon "sold
everything" and people no longer looked for a website that just sold CDs.
Shame - it was a very good little company, but that's life.
Nowadays, everybody goes to Google. And if you're not big enough to face Google
head on, sorry, you're either road-kill or small fry. "When elephants
dance, the ants get trampled". That's just the way of the world.
Anti-trust gets involved only when the elephants actively hunt, or drive, you
out. (Which is why MS are so reviled.)
Cheers,
