Kindle wiped by Amazon.

Why would anyone buy a Kindle these days and assume that they have control over
what's on it?

Amazon have done this before. (Yeah, someone set them up by hosting an illegal
copy of 1984, but they still showed they have the capability and willingness to
do this)

> she ordered an ebook whilst in England.

And physical paper books don't protect you either. There
are still too many country "B" border "protection" officers
knowing that you came from country "A" will fossick
thru your baggage to be sure you're not importing
unwelcome literature. That responsibility for ebooks
may have been off-loaded to Amazon

I have to admit this "related account" business is scary,
because it is so mysterious...

The blinding light of day onto some defective algorithm
has caused a silent, equally unexplained retraction
by Amazon. See latest update at boingboing link above.

To be perfectly honest, I'd rather have a Sony e-reader than any Amazon e-reader
... and that would be a hard pill to swallow.
