2% of something, or 100% of nothing?

2% of something is better than 100% of nothing, right?

Unless you like having a monopoly on nothing?

Top dog to underdog in less than two years
Authored by: ailuromancy on Wednesday, October 17 2012 @ 12:51 PM EDT

Lumia was launched worldwide with a huge marketing budget and sold at a loss. N900 was limited to a few low population and poor countries. It had a low ($0?) advertising budget. N900 outsold Lumia. N950 is ready for production, but Elop refused to sell it at all.

Also remember that before Elop's burning platforms, Nokia were the biggest in the market with twice the revenues of their nearest competitor. $2billion was not anything like enough compensation for obliterating Nokia's dominant position.

Elop's contribution in one picture.

"Windows phone, with or without MS seed money, is a reasonable bet for the
largest market share."

What definition of "largest market share" are you using?

Microsoft has a proven track record of cluelessness when it comes to both mobile
and consumers. They are a reasonable bet to blow any campaign related to
phones, and to turn a mediocre market share into a downright bad market share
within six months of product release.
