Exactly, this is as old as the hills.
I graduated in 1975 with a degree in Instrumentation and Control. Even then
there were many scientific papers covering the use of optical methods to control
devices. Ok, many of them use OCP71's but the principle was the same.
I'd like to 'root locus' this company and give them a hefty dose of the square
root of -1.
notice my sig and you will understand..
There are many who like to see apple get a does of their own medicine but in
this case it is just silly and I expect that apple will get them overturned and
then sue the company for vexatious litigation.
This whole patent madness needs someone to stop a lot of these trolls. They are
costing the US Economy billions a year. Suing a few of them into oblivions might
go some way to stop at least some of this silliness.
Then some of those billions might be spent on making better products (Like cars
that go round corners without wallowing...)

Ubuntu & 'apt-get' are not the answer to Life, The Universe & Everything which
is of course, "42" or is it 1.618?

The patents probably are rubbish as I said above, but you'll need
to prove this in court. What is bogus about the complaints is
that the patents are quite specifically for a Flaslight, or device
which performs the functions of a flashlight, which the iPad
and MacBook quite clearly are not.
It's like suing a gunmaker for a knife patent...
