Google search is a pretty clear monopoly, um, no
Authored by: cjk fossman on Wednesday, October 17 2012 @ 01:35 AM EDT
Not clear at all.

Google does not have the power to set a price for the web
advertising market. There are plenty of alternatives
available.

Market share alone does not a monopoly make. Nor does the
poor quality of the competition.

It is a monopoly in a competitive market
Authored by: marcosdumay on Wednesday, October 17 2012 @ 10:47 AM EDT
Yep, I know the title contradicts itself. Yet, Google has competition on search,
and the competition is inversting about as much as Google on it. Yet, Google has
a monopoly, because the competition is simply not competent enough (hello,
Singularity).

There are no visible barriers to entry for big players (there are for startups -
some created by the government), there is no way to lock people in search
players, most of the means of excluding competition simply don't work on that
market... The governments should better stay out of it untill something obvious
happen, because there is no way they'll improve the current situation.
