(I started trying to think of how painters make money now. I suspect they are
ahead of the curve on easy reproduction thanks to cameras.)

I think one possible way is with a modification of trade-marks. Make it
relatively easy for the creative types to get trademarks on specific things,
like their signature or something.

Then the authors sell limited editions of their books/cd/etc with their
trademarks plainly visible.

People who want an original will pay a premium. Everyone else gets digital
copies or knock-offs. Owning the equivalent of a CD would become a status
thing. Kind of like owning an original painting now.

Where it makes sense to do live performances, authors can do tours to make
significant money. I suspect people would have paid a lot for their kids to
listen to JK Rowling read the Harry Potter books.
