Well, every time I try to let people sign up
freely again we end up with loathsome spam,
and sometimes worse.

We are volunteers. It's very easy to say that
we should do X or Y, but unless you guys want
to pay to hire someone to deal with all that,
we can only do what we have time to do. And
I have to sleep sometimes, and if I wake up
and see awful stuff on Groklaw, it bothers me,
and over time it builds to where I feel like
quitting.

That, to me, is more important than whether it
would be nice to let people sign up.

By the way, if you email me and tell me a bit about
yourself and why you'd like a membership, I
can set you up. I make no guarantees that I will.
Keep in mind that a membership implies that
you are on board to help, not create issues.
Anyone can comment, with or without a membership,
and I'll keep anonymity as a Groklaw value, but
I also have to deal with those who use it to
cause harm. So that's the story.
