In the recent ITC case Samsung was found to have valid
standards essential patents, and Apple clearly implemented
the standards.

The judge found that there was nothing wrong with the
patents but that Apple just didn't infringe them.

It seems either the patents were badly drafted or actually
not essential, or the judge was just determined that Apple
would win anyway. The massive non-searchable PDF files, and
the opaque language make finding the clear truth rather hard
without special training and lots of time.
