In the current world you need sufficient power - that can be due to an army, or
a big enough following, possibly, but is mainly through might of FUNDS - funds
that can be redistributed to do help reach your goals, f.e. by
lobbying/threatening to move offices to somewhere cheaper.

The funds you have might be partly illusionary (here in NL/EU we have government
backed bank-guaranty for part of it, which makes it only somewhat illusionary at
a Bank), but as long as many people believe it, and don't stop believing it (see
stock market ...) the power it brings is a real and present force.
