Just like riding a bike
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, October 05 2012 @ 03:12 PM EDT
Really you are reading a huge amount into this - actually you sound a lot like wanting Joe 90 and other memory changing stories. Please note that the genes are not changing but rather the expression of those genes. In fact you could argue that it is like turning off the lights and other electronic items in the house that you are not currently using and turning those on where you need them.

The monkey is unclear as it also implies that improving health status improves social status. Healthy animals tend to be in better shape to fight for their status. Bees go through a cycle from activities in the hive to outside the hive (it's complex). So part of what was done is like riding a bike, once you know you usually do not forget how. Just because I have a bike and car in the garage, it does not mean that I will always ride the bike. But if the car unavailable, then I would ride the bike. That is the same scenario as the bee experiment - some but not all bees come back to the work in the hive. If you do the opposite, then some bees will mature faster and work outside the hive. Really it is pure task management as the bee does the job that it needs to do.
