_smart_ isn't the word. _uncivilized_ or _irresponsible_
gets closer.

Funny thing about evading jury duty: You never know when you
might want to be able to depend on the availability and
impartiality of a jury in a case that involves you or
someone you love. So it's almost too bad for those who pride
themselves on being "smart" enough to answer the right
questions just so that trial by jury is not available only
to those who pay also into the system by participating
honestly and responsibly in it when called to do so.

Having served on a jury in the last month--_of course_ it's
an imposition; there's never a good time--I have news for
you: When those pivotal questions come up--you know, the
ones you've learned you can intentionally skew your answers
to just the necessary bit to compel the judge or either
legal team to immediately dismiss you--and you feel a little
zing of adrenaline as you do so, that's your conscience
trying to break out of the cell of stupidity you've trapped
it in.
