Which hasn't changed since you've been posting on GROKLAW!
The major complaint is exposed as being against a 2nd party
out sourced contractor. You better believe you should
probably toss your Nokia device too. Because it may have
been partly or wholly assembled in under age sweatshops in
China! ;-P
Apple CLW:
Telegraph UK: Apple admits child labour used at its assembly
plants.
Nokia - New York NGO:
Foxconn factory doing assembly on Nokia and Apple products
had been found to have 62 underage workers in it's employ
aged from as young as 12yo to 15yo. "under the legal age of
16yo. While under certain conditions laborers under age 18yo
is not expressly prohibited. But under no circumstance shall
employment of those under the age of 16yo be tolerated."
That's the Law.... but rarely followed, even here in the
good old USA (migrant farm workers have been found to be as
young as 12yo here), Mexico, and South America!
So your precious Nokia along with Apple are just as liable
as Samsung for having underage workers assembling their
products. Better toss half the things you own, if what
you're doing is protesting the use of underage workers in
China. Because it's really a travesty of justice to just
point the finger here at Samsung. Just because they've
announced Record Profits that Beat OUT Apple's! ^_*
Especially when every major company in the World has
products either fully manufactured in Chinese Sweat Shops or
at least assembled in them. Don't forget the clothing
industry where the rate of hiring children is even greater
and goes unreported on a daily basis. Check your clothing,
socks, T-shirts, etc out. Yeah.... MADE IN CHINA!
Want to make a bet that most likely some as young as 9yo are
used routinely in the Garment Industry throughout Asia! ;-)[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Perhaps we should simply stop buying anything from China. It's the country as a
whole that has so little regard for human rights. Why are we sending so many
jobs over there, supporting things we wouldn't tolerate at home?

Of cource completely ignore the fact that while pay and working conditions are
terrible by modern western standards, they are both probably better than any
other options the plant's workers would have.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
