Your phone may have been assembled in Finland.
The components inside it are foreign, though.
When it finally breaks, read the markings
on the chips inside and see how many were
made in Finland. What about the display?
The battery? Not made in Finland, I bet.
Good luck finding any piece of modern technology
that is manufactured entirely by well paid
workers that are not mistreated.
Yes, it's sad to see the working conditions at
the plants in China, but please keep in mind that
the alternative for these people may be to have
no job at all and be so poor they starve. It's
not a good situation, but it would not improve
their life if we just stopped ordering from them
and forced them to close down those plants.
Not really that long ago, conditions for factory
workers were pretty bad in Europe too. Things
have improved in the last few decades, but more
recently than we would care to admit, European
factories were pretty efficient in abusing the
workers and sending them to an early grave.
We did not enter the industrial age with a fully
developed sense of respect for workers' health
and quality of life. But I sure hope for things
to improve faster in China than it did in Europe.
