Huawei might not be GPL violators...
Authored by: Anonymous on Tuesday, October 09 2012 @ 11:03 PM EDT
Huawei do post some kernels on their site. If the same kernel is used
in several models it may not be posted under your model Nr.
Your device info should tell you the Android build Nr, plus
the kernel build Nr. Since 2012-05-30 they have released
four Gingerbread kernel tarballs and two ICS on the English site.
On the general software support page do not select any product type
or number. At the bottom of the list of ten items is a "More" button.
Keeping on clicking for more increases the list by ten/click.
The latest I can find specifically for 8520 is Android 2.2 firmware
on the Chinese download page. And that page has seven
different kernels. Without looking inside the tarball I'd
be reluctant to accuse them of GPL violation...

There is a strong Huawei forum at http://www.modaco.com/
but currently showing a site unavailable page
