Let me ask you this:
Should I be allowed to follow you around, logging every store you visit, and
every space you enter, every piece of paper you read, every magazine cover you
glance at, etc. and give/sell that information to any and all takers? Should
you have to *ask* me to stop? Should actually stopping when you ask be
*voluntary* on my part?
That's what's happening with advertiser tracking. If done in the physical
world, it would be a *blatant* violation of privacy, anti-stalking, and
anti-harrassment laws. Why should it be any different online.
The argument that we should have to *ask* advertisers to *not* track us is
absurd on its face. They should have to ask *us* if we're willing to be tracked
by them, and they should have to inform us of what they're gathering, and who
they provide it to![ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
