ah, but I mac filter and run wpa2 aes AND the router is turned off when I turn
the computer off via the ups.

Not perfect, but the best I can manage with a consumer level router.

Not true at present, but I had one of those "the other sockets come on when
you draw power from the first" power block leads. If the main system for
the house shut down, so did the router :-) And it was only on when it was in
use.
