It's not the judge's job to ferret out liars.
The entire system is built on trust. If
someone chooses to game the system, things go
wrong. Then you go into phase B, the process
for dealing with it.

I was in the panel for a multi-million dollar personal injury lawsuit (entire
panel was dismissed, which is another story), and I hadn't filled out anything
when I walked in. In fact, I'm not even certain that the attorneys for the
parties knew my name. This was in county court, not federal court, and I know
procedures vary by venue.
