Apple Reveals Several Camera Patents & Legally Updates Siri
Authored by: Anonymous on Monday, October 01 2012 @ 08:40 AM EDT
"Last week Apple filled a series of seven major patent filings directly related to advancing camera features that will be found in future iterations of Apple's iDevices such as the iPhone and iPad. The new patent applications cover gesture techniques and in-depth detailing of their advanced red-eye technology." There are also some updates to the Siri patent application. This looks like a good opportunity to try the crowd sourcing to find prior art.

Juror’s broomstick experiment sinks conviction
Authored by: Anonymous on Monday, October 01 2012 @ 04:27 PM EDT

Article link.

That's an excellent recent find that appears to have ties to the Foreman's behavior in the Apple vs Samsung trial.

The juror, whose occupation as a professor gave him “enhanced stature in the eyes of his fellow jurors … could well have struck a decisive blow in favor of conviction” with his unauthorized experiment, the three-judge panel said.
As could the Foreman's stature with his fellow jurors - for both the prior experience he claimed to have and share as well as his position as the Foreman.

Hopefully - in the event the situation really is as it appears to have been painted by the Foreman in the media - the Apple vs Samsung case will be going back for a new trial as well.

From the Apple vs Samsung Jury Instructions, Final Jury Instruction No. 1 Duty Of Jury:

That means that you must decide the case solely on the evidence before you. You will recall that you took an oath to do so.
And yet Mr. Foreman decided to share his background experiences and lead the Jury with evidence not presented in that specific trial. Unless Mr. Foreman can point to the evidence during trial that "code runnability directly on a device is not interchangeable and is therefore not prior art"... but somehow I don't think he can and the logical result was that since that concept was not introduced during trial it was therefore evidence external to trial that the Foreman brought to the Jury table.

Best line from Larry Ellison...
Authored by: red floyd on Monday, October 01 2012 @ 11:35 PM EDT
Best line from Larry Ellison's keynote last night: "We're number one in applications, behind SAP."
Or like the old legendary Pravda headline after the US/USSR dual track meet:

"Glorious Soviet team comes in second. Capitalist running dogs finish next to last."
