After all the Hittites, Syrians/Persians were on the east, and their traditional
battle area.

There are other factors in a fall of America too though,
maybe we aren't poisoned by lead (much) but we are poisining
are selves in plenty of other ways these days, some examples
would be our high sugar intakes, genetically modified food,
air pollution, headache medicine, flu vaccines, ect. (I'm
not trying to debate specifics, so if you disagree with one
or two of those just ignore those ones).
Climate change is slowly creeping up on us in place of what
you called climate 'variation'.
A war with Iran seems to be pretty much a given in the near
future, and it should be noted that depending on how strong
there morals our we might be facing quite deadly biological
attacks (though it should be noted that even when they were
allowed to use chemical weapons in the Iran/Iraq war after
Iraq used them against Iran they chose not to and they might
make a similar decision here). Qutie honestly I'm not sure
how the US would react to a war where THEY had significant
civilian casualties these days.
That said there are also major differences between Rome and
America, the most major one in my opinion is the ability to
blow up the surface of the world using nuclear bombs. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
