There are two kinds of fools to watch for: one
that says "This is old, and therefore good", and
one that says "This is new, and therefore better".
I try to stay clear of either camp, but it can be
difficult at times.
I use large amounts of electronic media, but I
still like books. A lot. For many good reasons.
My brain works differently in front of a display
than when faced with a book, or a stack of papers
that I can spread out on a table. I wouldn't want
to be confined to use either old or new technology.
Of course, paperware is also suitable for low tech
environments, like poor and developing countries,
the great outdoors or a post-apocalyptic society.
A world without books would be unequal and highly
vulnerable.

I'm not banning paper - I'm for banning paper shaped documents that cant easily
be read on most computer screens.
Non paper shaped documents turn into paper shaped documents when you print them
but it really really doesn't work the other way round.
If you start with free flowing (unless absolutely necessary) html its very easy
to convert into Pointless Document Format/Word if you have to but in my
experience where you offer free flowing screen readable documentation the need
to print rapidly tends to zero.
Imagine how this forum would work if we all had to present A4 pdfs rather than
the html we do. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Given the ease with which the 'rogue element' can access and 'edit' digital
material, how can you be sure you are reading what the author wrote?[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
