Actually, this is a Politico article about Ryan separating himself from Romney these days, but for our purposes, focus on the good funnies the article's author makes about Power Point.

An EU working group that's been charged with coming up with recommendations for a terrorist-free European Internet has been brainstorming the stupidest goddamned ideas you've ever read, which are now widely visible, thanks to a leaked memo.

Watson headed for the Cloud
Authored by: Gringo_ on Wednesday, September 26 2012 @ 11:37 AM EDT
Gizmodo reports...

Watson, the Jeopardy-winning supercomputer developed by IBM, could become a cloud-based service that people can consult on a wide range of issues, the company announced last week. "Watson is going to be an advisor and an assistant to all kinds of professional decision-makers, starting in healthcare and then moving beyond. We're already looking at a role for Watson in financial services and in other applications," says John Gordon, Watson Solutions Marketing Manager at IBM in New York.

I would suggest Watson be used to find prior art to invalidates patents. Not much chance of that, with IBM being one of the biggest patent holders in the world.

Comments to the story include one-liners such as "Watson is a Cylon... I just know it" and "Isn't this how skynet started?"

Kenya to switch off 'fake' mobile phones
Authored by: tiger99 on Wednesday, September 26 2012 @ 12:08 PM EDT
BBC

A good thing too, as the Kenyan rural economy is based on a very efficient system of mobile payments, and fake phones, especially with a bogus IMEI, can seriously undermine the workings of a major part of the economy.

But I see that Nokia may be clutching at straws to keep their own business afloat:

"For every one million phones recycled, it is possible to recover nearly 35kg of gold and 350kg of silver, which can be re-used in the production of future electronic goods."
Well, a million phones might go some way to paying Mr. Flop's salary.....

Japanese scientists claim first synthesis of element 113
Authored by: Gringo_ on Wednesday, September 26 2012 @ 05:33 PM EDT

As reported by the LA Times...

The researchers collided zinc, which has 30 protons, with bismuth, which has 83. The result was an atom with 113 protons in its nucleus, the researchers say. But the new element quickly decayed.

"For our next challenge, we look to the uncharted territory of element 119 and beyond."

Here is some useful background material for you.
