Google Maps announces a 400 year advantage over Apple Maps
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, September 21 2012 @ 01:31 PM EDT

I really liked the public transit element of the old Apple-written but Google backed Maps app. So, what to do now? Google map via the web. That works. The bus system's online schedules. That works.

Since Google Earth, Google Search, and Google+ are all installed on my iDevices via the App Store, I presume that sometime sooner than later, Google Maps will be a native app on my phone.

Lesson? Supply and demand. Google, the ball is in your court. Use your advantage to get revenue. In the meantime, if Maps fails me, I'll start looking at who will take my money and give me a better product. Or, I'll learn to do without.

My reply to Mike Dobson:

Mike, you hit the nail on the head with point #3. I suspect Apple's current software folks may still believe you can do anything with software. My former bosses certainly though so!
I suspect Apples motivation was more to squash Google than to provide a good user experience.
Will hubris drive them to hire some expensive mapping experts?
Apple still hasn't learned from Microsoft, though they are quickly becoming microsoftian.
a) Fight your competition by proxy. b) Buy your technology if you can't do it yourself.

Are they spending so much on patent suits they can't afford data from the
Ordinance Survey?
