“why not decrease population growth? It's gonna have to be
done some day.”
It will be done some
day—whether we like it or not. If we refuse to do it voluntarily, then
sooner or later, nature will force us to drop the arrogance and become
far more humble. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Try a low carb diet, no grains, especially wheat products,
no
refined sugars. You can get all your calories and sugars from vegetables,
and
your protein from meats. Except we don't have enough arable land
area in the world for everybody to follow this diet. People just don't
understand the staggering amount of food produced, and just how much land it
takes. The world is already well above food production volumes that can be
produced using traditional methods.
Awhile back there was a call to produce all
livestock using free range methods. Seeing the person was harping on how good
free range chickens were I ran the numbers for them. For just the US chicken
production alone, it would take over 2,000 chickens produced per farm per year
to meet current consumption of chicken meat. That doesn't count those needed
for egg production. It also doesn't count any other livestock.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
