Well, considering Monsanto is a bigger patent troll than the entire software
industry, I'd say they certainly aren't the right hands.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

GM is great, in theory, but how does one control abuses? How does one test the
safety of GM crops, or GM drugs? The reason crops suffer pestilence is simple:
they are so hybridized for yield, that pest resistance has been lost, and
overuse of synthetic fertilizers has eliminated the trace minerals plant need to
grow.
Monsantos real purpose is the total control of crop production. This gives a
new meaning to the term "walled garden".[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Genetic modification allows us to create bacteria that produce insulin. Which is
far superior to slaughtering pigs to extract insulin.
It also allows us to speed up improvement of crops, making crops less dependent
on pesticides for example.
Using it, as Monsanto does, to increase the amount of herbicide (roundup, which
they sell as well) is not only pointless, it is counter-productive. It increases
the amount of pollution and increases the risk of roundup-resistant weeds.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
