I used to enjoy starting with bare metal and crafting the
perfect Linux configuration for my machines. I was an avid
Slackware user from its inception until maybe three years
ago.
Unfortunately I don't have time for that anymore. The kids
have homework and activities, the house is old enough that
the cheap tract-house construction is starting to fall
apart, and of course the day job still takes 10+ hours per
day.
Nowadays when I install or upgrade a machine I need it to
Just Work. If I have to fiddle with it, it gets abandoned
promptly.
I bet a lot of people, likely most, are in the same boat.

In the beginning of the PC a lot of owners did not understand what was going on
with this new technology.
"Thanks" to progress this is still the same.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
