Who else has attempted to force a particular OS on a system?

Especially a system they don't even own, or even make.

And no - surface doesn't count- it will be made in China just like all the
others.

about deliberateness

Recently microsoft found that some malware was already installed at/by
factories.
I guess secure boot might be able (or let people think it would ) mitigate such
a threat ?
How convenient that would be.

How about blank pc's, no preinstall = no malware
and educative for the pc owner to do the install
oneself.
Unfortenately it seems a lot of people are impatient and don't want to know
about computers. The latest buy just has to look fancy and project its glory on
the owner and all is well .... (yes that is ranting)
