How to migrate to a virtual partition?

dd if=/dev/sdax of=windows.image

and then there's a virtualbox command that will turn that into a virtualbox disk
image. How you make it bootable I don't know, but I've used that on a couple of
occasions to back up hard disks of machines I might be upgrading, or dodgy disks
I'm trying to recover.

The only snag with that, of course, is have you got space on the disk to make an
image of the disk ... :-)
