Just because someone buys an IP doesn't stop someone else from having their site hosted elsewhere.

If the strategy is as you suggest, then the big risk factor is: "is the affected site already mirrored on another host as a backup?".

If such a backup is already implemented, then the risk to shutdown Slashdot/SourceForge/Groklaw is non-existent.

Groklaw activates on other host

Down time = time to realize Groklaw has been shut down and flip the switch to activate other host Of course this is assuming the shutdown effort didn't have a Legal Force behind it like a Judge's Order.

But how could shutting down Slashdot be a prelude to shutting down Groklaw?

If the Pipe fairy has bought Slashdot, then shutting it down is easy. But PJ
isn't available to be bought ... :-)
