It is about the Microsoft Marketing
money.

Soon they will be touting the sales but it
will be due to the money and Microsoft
employees having to eat their own
dogfood.

You did hear about Microsoft forcing win8
phones, tablets, and desktops on all of the
employees, no?

Intel's new Clover Trail chip will support Android & Linux
Authored by: Anonymous on Wednesday, September 19 2012 @ 03:09 PM EDT
It did seem to me that Microsoft have paid Intel to design a 'W8-only' chip.
This may be like a winmodem where some firmware has to be loaded, or some key
must be supplied.

But it is not only anti-Linux/Android, it will also be anti-Windows7/XP. The
biggest threat to Microsoft's dreams of dominating the mobile market is that
everyone stays with Windows XP or 7. The mass move to Windows 8 is required in
order to indoctrinate the users with TIFKAM (or Notro). Once this goes beyond
hate, to mere annoyance and towards familiarity, those users will start to
_demand_ the same UI on their phones and tablets. Or so the dogma goes.

The first step is to make it impossible to downgrade new machines to Windows 7,
or upgrade to Linux/Android. UEFI 'Secure boot' was step 1. W8-only CPUs is the
next step.

It also seems to me that MS will be tying the Surface tablets to MS services,
such as Office 358, Live, and such and requiring a monthly fee. If the
subscription isn't paid the computer will brick. On any unlocked system there
would be the option of Win7 (pirated!) or Linux plus LibreOffice to continue
being useful without a monthly fee.

This is another case of MS copying Apple. The ARM chips that iThings use are
specifically designed for these, as ARM allows. MS can do the same with Intel,
but we don't have to buy them.
