why should i do govt work for free

If there was a reward for finding prior art? That could go well. Anyone apping
for a patent, put a 10k returnable deposit as well as the submission fee. If
no-prior art found (which of course there won't be will there because they've
already checked), they get it back. If other art is found, then the person who
finds the cash.

Because they can't seem to get it done right and it would
be a benefit for society as a whole. Like supporting your
favorite charity or volunteering in the soup kitchen, that
kind of stuff. But, only if you are able to, of course.
Lots of opportunity for those who are capable, I imagine.

As JFK said, "Ask not what your country can
do for you. Ask what you can do for your
country".

I've probably mangled that, because I am
writing from a memory of maybe 50 years
ago. If I wasn't replying from my smart
phone, I might have Googled it for you.

Anyhow, I don't really intend that as a
serious answer to the current discussion. It
just popped into my mind and I thought I
would share that with you.
