No, that is not true. Read groklaw where they state thy simply got
tired of waiting. This wasn't to prevent android from being open
source.
The original post did not claim it was to prevent Android
from being open source, it said Google did not wish to ensure that it was
open source.
As to your hypothesis that Google "got tired of waiting",
perhaps you could provide a link to where this was stated by Google because the
Android
Licensing FAQ points to an article by Ryan Paul as providing an accurate
explanation of the reasoning; and that explanation does not mention anything
about getting "tired of waiting", but instead tends to substantiate the original
poster's claim that the Apache license was chosen "in order to get more
smartphone makers to come on board".
