Maybe it's time!

Maybe it's time you were enlightened.

Start by viewing as many lectures by
Noam Chomsky on YouTube as you can.

US courts exceeding their authority
Authored by: Anonymous on Tuesday, September 18 2012 @ 06:39 AM EDT
Well, they can either grow up and admit that they don't have jurisdiction over
the whole world (which would require pulling out of some major invasions - never
going to happen), or they could let everyone they claim jurisdiction over vote
on who's president (also never going to happen).

Otherwise they're just encouraging people to hate them.

(disclaimer, I know quite a few very nice americans, I just detest their
government's current policy)

Treaties supersede local laws?
Authored by: Anonymous on Tuesday, September 18 2012 @ 07:35 AM EDT
If I understand it correctly, this is so. And I always wonder that when U.S.
courts claim jurisdiction in foreign lands, whether there is some kind of treaty
that is interfering with local jurisdictions. This is why the U.S. often uses
the term "harmonization" to try to get foreign governments to align
their laws with U.S. concepts, like software patents. It's certainly easier to
get a treaty with a foreign government via negotiation among a few diplomats
than it is to persuade a majority or supermajority in a foreign parliament to do
the same thing. For instance, you'll notice Microsoft or other proprietary
software companies always seem to prefer trying to get the EC to overrule the
European Parliament.
