Reducing cApple clutter - really
Authored by: mbouckaert on Thursday, September 13 2012 @ 08:58 PM EDT
Most other manufacturers have that thing called a "dock". No
cables, no clutter.

The MacBook requires separate power, Ethernet, USB(s),
monitor, etc. each its own piece of cable-- so how is that
"reducing" ?

The magnetically-clicking power connector, OTOH, is a great
idea they probably have patents on... but to reduce clutter
I would suggest that they'd have to carry Ethernet, USB and
maybe other (the concept of "options" exists and has not
been patented TTBOMK), all going to a slightly-larger
clicking port on the laptop, all from the power brick...

Prior art for carrying unrelated signals over a single
cable: Burroughs EF7900, 1983. People who have seen it will
no doubt laugh uncontrollably.

Lightning connector spec doesn’t list video-out
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, September 14 2012 @ 08:15 AM EDT
I'd love to see how a Lightning -> Video out converter will work. There is NO
connection that allows a video out on the Lightning socket, so unless they can
modulate the video onto another signal line that is there, some deep magic will
need invoking!
