Which raise the question. Why aren't there pedestrian or automobile accidents on
the runways of Gilbralter's airport?

How long (far) does it take a train to stop?
My understanding is that for a train of any significant size traveling at any
significant speed (AIUI, this can be as low as 30mph / ~48kph) it can take
several miles of travel before they can stop.
How far back, especially in an urban area, would a train then have to be
notified of a blocked crossing in order to stop in time?
