I don't have my Raspberry Pi yet, but I did buy an Atrix dock in anticipation.
I also bought an NK802 computer on a stick because of the long wait for the
Raspberry Pi. It can be hooked up to the Atrix dock, too, using similar
methods.
I immediately faced the same problem, about connectors. You need a Micro HDMI
female connector to hook up to the dock, and a Mini HDMI male connector to hook
into the MK802.
The only place that I was able to find any Micro HDMI female to Mini HDMI male
adapters was on ebay. And the only vendor is in China. Seemingly, such an
adapter is totally non-existent in the US. I tried very hard to locate a more
local source for this rather trivial component and I could not. I saw a similar
complaint from someone in England, who said that he found no source outside of
ebay, too. There are several places where one can buy cables and adapters with
Micro HDMI male on one end, but to get something with Micro HDMI female on one
end seems to be impossible.
So I ordered the connector last week all the way from China and got an e-mail
from the seller last Friday, saying it is shipped. He said that the delivery
should occur within 2 weeks, unless there is a holdup at US Customs.
The lack of selection for HDMI adapters in the US is amazing. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Did Motorola patent the LapDock idea?
As the power of mobile chips, RAM and storage increase, this
LapDock thing could become both Apple tablets and M$ laptops
challenger in the near future. A lot of people got familiar with
Android interface and now there is a chance, why not use it?
If I were Google, I would:
1) produce LapDocks with cellphone Connector not on the back of
the screen, but near the keyboard, where the touchpad is- just
make a hole with pins instead of the latter - and make it so that
the Droids lay flat flash face up along the keyboard. Then
cellphone's screen can be used as the touchpad. For friendly
Android devices there could be adapters to the Connector as well.
2) make the screen of lapdock swiveling, so that it converts to
Tablet.
3) Create an application that connects very oddly shaped Androids
to a LapDock through "married" USB+HDMI cable and use this
cellphone as a mouse and still as the "brain" of the whole
system.
4) Patent all ideas and share with Android/Linux comunity.

I ordered an Atrix dock yesterday from Amazon. It arrived today, and is very
nice indeed. I see that people are using them for other things too, basically
anything that will drive a HDMI screen and respond to a USB keyboard and
mouse. The Raspberry Pi is coming in three weeks from Farnell. Hopefully it
will be one of the UK produced ones. I just need to order up a couple of
cables now. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
