I type a about 1/3rd faster on a clicking keyboard than on a silent one. I feel
the tactile feedback of the key hitting bottom so I know it has been struck
properly.
I too learned on typewriters, both manual, as electric. We had 5 general types
of typewrites at school and you had to be proficient on at least three of them
to pass typing. I'm counting all three IBM electric models as the same type,
and both the Olivetti electrics as the same type. Teacher liked to buy a batch
of 5 new ones every couple years. She bought 5 Apple IIs for the next school
year after I took typing. 3 more than the science lab had... LOL When I was in
typing class I demoed a word processor to her on one of the science lab
computers.
I wonder how many people remember the typewriters that could store a line or two
or even a full page of text? Talking about a technology that came and went
fast.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
